SDF Candidate D. R. Thapa Won Bye-Election of 28- Upper Burtuk Assembly Constituency with huge Margin
Gangtok, 15 April: The counting of votes for the Bye-election to the 28- Upper Burtuk Assembly Constituency in the East District of Sikkim that was held on the 12th April, 2017 has been concluded with Shri D. R. Thapa, the candidate sponsored by the ruling Sikkim Democratic Party being declared elected as the Member of the Sikkim Legislative Assembly from the 28- Upper Burtuk Assembly constituency.
Shri D. R. Thapa, the winning candidate of the Sikkim Democratic Party has secured a total votes of 8,406 with Shri Suresh Khanal Sharma of BJP securing 374, Shri Shekhar Chettri, Independent Candidate secured 168 votes, Shri Navin Kiran Pradhan, Independent candidate secured 148 votes, Shri Shanti Kumar Basnett, Independent candidate secured 106 votes, Smt. Sumitra Rai, INC secured 98 votes and Shri Wang Tashi Bhutia, Independent candidate secured 27 votes.
The total number of valid votes was 9,327 and the total votes registered in the NOTA have been calculated at 100. There were 16 postal ballot papers received by the Returning Officer in this election out of which one (01) postal ballot was rejected.
The counting of votes began at around 8.00am in presence of the Observers and the Candidates and their counting agents in the Counting Hall of the District Administrative Centre, Sichey, East Sikkim where the counting of postal ballot paper was done first.
There were six (06) counting tables set up in the Counting Hall at DAC, Sichey, East Sikkim. The counting of votes ended in the 3rd round in presence of the Returning Officer.
The Returning officer for 28- Upper Burtuk Assembly constituency in the end declared Shri D. R. Thapa of the Sikkim Democratic Party as the winner to be duly elected as the member of the Sikkim Legislative Assembly from 28- Upper Burtuk Assembly constituency and awarded the certificate of election.
The Returning Officer has also thanked all the contesting candidates for their participation in the Bye-election which hitherto has been concluded peacefully.
