AKRS gears up to celebrate Sakewa Festival in a grand manner
Gangtok, April 12: The Akhil Kirat Rai Sangh (AKRS) Sikkim
convened a meeting Yesterday to discuss the celebrating Sakewa Festival that falls
on 10th May 2017. The Meeting at the official residence of Minister
for Social Justice, Empowerment and Welfare Department, Tulshi Devi Rai was
chaired by MLA cum Chairman PAC, Bek Bahadur Rai and attended by AKRS members
led by President Chandra Khaling. Also present were Advisor Binod Rai, Chairman
STDC, Rup Narayan Rai, Dr. S.K. Rai, SICUN Chairman, Ganesh Kr. Rai, J.P. Rai,
General Secretary, AKRS and other members.
President AKRS, Chandra Khaling briefed on the significance
of Sakewa Festival among the Rai community. He informed that Saramsa Garden in
East Sikkim has been chosen as the venue for Sakewa celebration this time and
proposed inviting representatives of other community organizations and
representatives to spread a message the Sakewa like other festivals is a
festival of Sikkimese people celebrated
by other communities as well.
The festival like previous years will be marked with
Traditional Sakewa Puja, traditional stalls and colorful cultural
presentations.
The meeting also formed a Celebration Committee headed by
MLA Bek Bahadur Rai as the Chairman. Other
members of the Committee include Ashish Rai as Vice Chairman, Damber Kr. Rai,
General Secretary, Kailash Bangdel, Treasurer and Ashit Rai, Publicity
Secretary.
Chairman of Celebration Committee, Bek Bahadur Rai, in his
address called for coordinated effort from all to make Sakewa celebration a
grand success. He suggested involving representatives of other community
association in the organizational front as well and stressed on giving preference
to local talents in cultural programmes.
Next follow up meeting is scheduled on 16th April
at Saramsa Garden. The meeting was also joined by Minister Tulshi Devi Rai
later.
