Sikkim Legislative Assembly in a special sitting today passed the Goods and Services Tax (GST) Bill
Gangtok, August 30: Sikkim Legislative Assembly in a special sitting today passed the Goods and Services Tax (GST) Bill, officially referred to as Constitution Bill, 2014. With this, Sikkim becomes the 12th State in the Country to pass the GST Bill in the State Legislative Assembly. It may be recalled that the Constitution Bill, 2014 was passed by both the Houses of Parliament in the recently concluded monsoon session.
The Sikkim Legislative Assembly ratified the Amendment to the Constitution of India falling within the purview of clauses (b) and (c) of the proviso to clause (2) of article 368, proposed to be made by the Constitution (One Hundred and Twenty-Second Amendment) Bill, 2014, as passed by both the Houses of Parliament. The Resolution was taken into consideration and passed by the House in the Fourth Session (Part-III) of the Ninth Assembly of the Sikkim Legislative Assembly today.
The Resolution was moved in the House by Shri. R.B. Subba, Hon’ble Minister for Law, Legislative and Parliamentary Affairs Department, Government of Sikkim, and passed by the House.
Chief Minister in his motion of thanks address thanked the Speaker and all the members of the Sikkim Legislative Assembly for conducting the special session and for passing the Resolution on Ratification of Constitution Amendment Bill, 2014.
The session concluded with Vote of Thanks by Hon’ble Speaker Sikkim Legislative Assembly Shri K.N. Rai.
