WORKSHOP ON “SIKKIM OPEN DATA” CONCLUDES
Gangtok: The Sikkim Open Government Data portal, sikkim.data.gov.in was launched on 10th June 2016 by Shri P.D Rai, Hon’ble Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha) at the Accounts and Administrative Institute, Gangtok.
The 7 days’ workshop on Sikkim open data starting from13th June 2016 to 18th June 2016 at AATI, Gangtok was concluded, today. The workshop was organized by IT department in association with National Informatics Centre , Delhi.
The participating departments from the State were Rural Management and Development Department (RM&DD), Health Care, HS and Family Welfare Department (HC, HS&FED), Department of Economics, Statistics, Monitoring and Evaluation (DESM&E) and Human Resource Development Department (HRDD). Also, Panchayats from Melli-dara Paiyong attended the workshop.
In the first phase, the chief data officers and the data contributors were identified from each of the participating departments and they would upload data in the portal through proper data validation and cleaning. The workshop also shared an in-depth knowledge on Open Data, Identifying datasets, roles, process and procedure of publishing datasets through Sikkim data portal with hands-on training to the participants on publishing data in the portal.
During the workshop, a total of 56 datasets (resources) have been uploaded in the portal which can be viewed online. The workshop was concluded with the decision to form a task force under SODAAP (Sikkim Open Data Acquisition & Accessibility policy) Cell, in order to carry forward the task assigned. Further, the participants have provided a positive feedback and support in making this project a success.
