The Pariyavaran Mahotsav programme for the year 2016 was flagged off by Mayor Mr. Shakti Singh
Upadhakshya North, Member SPCB and other officers and staff of the Forest department, from Titanic Park here in the capital today.
Pariyavarn Mahotsav will be celebrated till 30th June 2016 with programmes like10 minutes to earth, mass plantation drive, cleanliness drive and awareness campaigns.
On the occasion Mr. C.S. Rao, IFS, CCF, Forest & Wildlife Department, Government of Sikkim requested the general public on behalf of the forest department to come forward and help in the plantation movement initiated by the Chief Minister Mr. Pawan Chamling in the year 2012.
By taking part in this campaign the public will be able to help in the preservation and protection of their environment and wildlife, he added.
Mr. Rao also informed that this year the number of seedling distribution centers have been increased to 112 in number, thus making it more accessible for the general public.
Approximately 15 lakh seedlings will be distributed during the course of this programme, he added.
Dustbins sponsored by the State Pollution Control Board (Sikkim) and garbage bags sponsored by Pokhari Samrakshan Samiti, Changu were also distributed during this event. (IPR)
