Governor Shri Shriniwas Patil felicitated students of Eklavya Model Residential School
Gangtok: In a series of engagements during two days West District Tour on 4th and 5th June 2016, Hon’ble Governor of Sikkim, Shri Shriniwas Patil felicitated seven student achievers of Eklavya Model Residential School, Gangyap, West Sikkim at Pelling on 5th June 2016. First Lady Smt. Rajanidevi Patil, District Collector, West Smt. Aishwarya Singh, Principal Shri Sidharth Yonzone and guardians of the students were present on the occasion.
District Collector, West, also the Chairperson of the School apprised the Hon’ble Governor about the objectives and achievement of the school established in 2007 and affiliated with CBSE. A brief report on the school’s academic achievement with reference to CBSE Results of Class X and XII in 2016 was also presented to Hon’ble Governor extended by School Principal Shri Sidharth Yonzone. Hon’ble Governor congratulated the students and teachers for the achievement and lauded the effort of the School Management Committee, District Collector and parents for their role in the achievement.
It may be mentioned that three students from the School namely Megha Limboo, Rosaline Lepcha and Sandesh Subba have scored perfect 10.0 CGPA in the recent Class X CBSE Results. Similarly seven students from Class XII have scored 90% and above in AISSCE 2016.
During interaction with the student achievers and teachers, Hon’ble Governor enquired about the infrastructure and facilities such as Mid Day Meal, teacher’s accommodation etc. and assured to take up the problems of the school with the Central Ministry under which the school functions.
Hon’ble Governor while enquiring about the ambition of students, encouraged them to start up their own enterprises specially in hospitality and tourism after completion of their study in view of the immense potential and boom in tourism in the State. He also urged the school management to arrange for the exposure trips and engagements for students within the state and outside which may help boost confidence of the students as they embark on the profession of their choice.
Hon’ble Governor also extended invitation to the achievers from the school to visit and stay at Raj Bhavan and have analytical study and interaction with their peers from reputed public schools in and around Gangtok.
On 4th June 2016, Hon’ble Governor accompanied by First lady also visited Kumphenling Tibetan Settlement at Ravangla. Shri Dakpa Tenzing, the Settlement Officer apprised the Hon’ble Governor about the history of the settlement established in 1978, the economic activities of the 256 household in the settlement, Special Frontier Force and carpet weaving centre run mostly by women and widows.
