Sikkim Herald can be collected from Herald Corner located in front of District Control Room from Today
Gangtok, 22 December: Information and Public Relations Department Govt. of Sikkim has made easy access to Sikkim Herald – an official bulletin of the state government for the people of all walks of life. Today onwards, Sikkim Herald can be collected from Herald Corner located in front of District Control Room, MG Marg, Gangtok.
Mr. N. K. Subba Minister for Urban Development and Housing Department inaugurated the display board of Herald Corner at MG Marg in Special presence of Minister for IPR Mr. A. K. Ghatani, this morning. The Programme was also attended by Advisor UDHD Mr. Sher Hang Subba, Mayor Gangtok Municipal Corporation (GMC) Mr. Shakti Singh Choudari, Dy. Mayor GMC Mrs Lassey Doma Bhutia, Special Secretary IPR Miss Namrata Thapa along with the officials from concerned department and the local gentry.
Minister Mr. N. K. Subba congratulated the department for the pro people initiatives in dissemination of governmental information and further assured to provide equal space for the establishment of Herald Corner in other towns and markets of the state.
While briefing the Media, concerned Minister Mr. Ghatani spoke on the prime objectives of the initiative and said that the display board is installed to make informative medium more transparent and easily accessible to the public at large.
He stated, Sikkim Herald, the largest circulated government bulletin in the state is published in 13 languages viz. English, Nepali, Tibetan, Lepcha, Limboo, Bhutia, Newari, Gurung, Sherpa, Tamang , Rai, Mangar and Mukhia which are displayed in the corner that can be accessed by the people to update themselves on various activities, programmes, policies, schemes important information like Notice inviting tenders and employment notices of the state government. Minister also came out with the thought to replicate the initiatives in prominent sites of all four districts in near future.
Earlier, Special Secretary Miss. N. Thapa offered khadaas and extended warm welcome to the dignitaries.
It may be mentioned here that IPR department, the nodal department of the state government, functions as the interface between the govt. and the media and plays a pivotal role in keeping the general public abreast of day to day events, activities, policies, programmes, initiatives and achievements of the State Government.
The English version of Sikkim Herald was made bi-weekly in June 2014, while the rest of the language editions come out weekly. The department also started regular publication of Sikkim Herald in English since 11th November 2016 and Nepali since 15th November 2016 in colour points. Sikkim Herald is also available on the internet at www.sikkimipr.org . MG Marg is frequently visited by the people from different parts of the State, Country and the abroad as well. Hence, it is expected that the effort made by the department would go a long way in disseminating information to a great extent.
