TWO DAYS ORIENTATION WOMEN SERICULTURE FARMERS’ TRAINING HELD AT UPPER WOK
Gangtok, 7 June: A
two (02) days Sericulture Farmers’ Training Programme was successfully conducted
for 60 Nos. of women sericulture farmers of Upper Wok, Lower Wok and Upper
Chumlong, South Sikkim by Directorate of Sericulture, Forests, Environment and
Wildlife Management Department, Government of Sikkim under Intensive Bivoltine
Sericulture Development Project w.e.f. 6th to 7th June,
2016.
From the Department,
Senior Officers and sub-ordinates were present. Resource persons from Krishi
Vigyan Kendra, Geyzing, Research Extension Centre, Rangpo were also engaged to
provide the technical support to the trainees.
Similarly, local panchayat members and Constituency Level Committee
member of the area was also involved in the inaugural session.
The similar training has already been conducted in other IBSD project areas of Sikkim for the same purpose.
So all together 200 Nos. of Women Sericulture
Farmers have been trained this year for Intensive Bivoltine Sericulture Development Project under
North Eastern Region Textiles Promotion Scheme funded by Ministry of Textiles,
Govt. of India which is being implemented by Directorate of Sericulture, Forest, Environment and Wildlife Management Department, Govt. of Sikkim.
OBJECTIVE
OF THE TRAINING:
The main purpose
behind organizing the training was to train the selected 60 Nos. of women
beneficiaries in adopting the improved technologies and package of practices
for mulberry cultivation in Sikkim for Intensive Bivoltine Sericulture
Development Project in Sikkim under North Eastern Region Textiles Promotion
Scheme. After the completion of training, each beneficiaries has to plant 3000
Nos. of mulberry saplings in their 0.5 acres of land each and likewise conduct
Silkworm Rearing in the Silkworm Rearing Houses in the coming years which will
funded by the Ministry of Textiles, Govt. Of India.
The training for rearing of
Silkworm will also be given to the beneficiaries very shortly in the coming
month by Directorate of Sericulture, Forests, Environment and Wildlife
Management Department in collaboration with Research Extension Centre, Rangpo. It
is believed that rearing of silkworm and giving good output through maximum
cocoon production by each beneficiaries of IBSDP would enhance and upgrade
their socio economic level and help them to run their livelihood in a better
way.
Besides, there is
also a provision of sending the progressive farmers from the group to visit
Sericulture advance states of India after the completion of training which will
be sponsored by Directorate of Sericulture, Forests, Environment and Wildlife
Management Department.
