Joseph Lepcha nominated for Kanchenjunga Kalam Puraskar 2016
K.N. Sharma for Laganshil Yuva Patrakar Samman
Gangtok: Press Club of Sikkim would be conferring the prestigious ‘Kanchenjunga Kalam Puraskar 2016’ to Mr. Joseph Lepcha, Sikkim Bureau Chief of national Hindi daily Dainik Jagaran.
This was decided today in the meeting of Executive Committee of Press Club of Sikkim.
Joseph Lepcha started his career in journalism in early 90s as a Sub Editor of Nepali weekly Swatantra Samachar. He also worked as an Editor of Nepali weekly Yugdhara before joining Dainik Jagaran as its Bureau Chief for Sikkim.
A versatile journalist, Lepcha has been active in this profession for almost a quarter of century.
The award will be presented on the occasion of the 14th Foundation Day of Press Club of Sikkim on 17th July 2016 in Gangtok.
The meeting also nominated K.N. Sharma for ‘Laganshil Yuva Patrakar Samman’, which will also be presented during the Foundation Day function. Sharma is west district correspondent of Nepali daily Himalaya Darpan.
The meeting further decided to honour Kashi Raj Pradhan posthumously for his outstanding contribution to the journalism in Sikkim. Pradhan, the pioneer of journalism in Sikkim, started journalism in Sikkim in 1950s by starting Nepali newspaper ‘Kanchenjunga’.
Similarly, Miss. Neeta Nirash, Sub Editor of Hindi weekly Jamana Sadabahar will be felicitated.
