Project Sawstik's concrete bridge over Bakcha Chu ready for inauguration
Gangtok, 8 December: The road Gangtok-Chungthang via Mangan, declared as NH 310 A by Govt Of India, is very important road link from strategic point of view. The connectivity to the North Sikkim has been restricted in past as there was an old Bailey Suspension Bridge (BSB Bridge) of 400 feet span B-III over Bakcha Chu at Km 23.450. The BSB bridge on this road was constructed during 1979 which restricted traffic upto load capacity of 8 ton only. The restricted load capacity of old bridge had caused great difficulty to the people on this road. The new 120 meter long balanced cantilever type pre-stressed concrete bridge is permanent type bridge having loading classification of IRC 70 R. The bridge has been constructed by BRO Project Swastik.
The B-III bridge is being inaugurated by Shri Hishey Lachungpa Hon’ble MP, Rajya Sabha, Sikkim on 10th Dec 2016.
Project Swastik, BRO has been constantly enduring to establish improved connectivity to North Sikkim by improving the infrastucture. The new bridge is another milestone achieved by Project Swastik, BRO. The newly constructed B-III bridge will facilitate transportation of essential commodities as well as passing through of heavy vehicles without any difficulty. A number of bridges on Gangtok - Chungthang road are being upgraded to permanent bridges. The new B - III bridge will immensely contribute to the well being and socio-economic development of the area.
