Officers of Zilla and Rajya Sainik Board called on Hon’ble Governor of Sikkim
Gangtok, 30 November: Col.(Retd.) D.N. Bhutia, Secretary Rajya Sainik Board, accompanied by all the Welfare Officers of Zilla Sainik Board and the Rajya Sainik Board staff called on Hon’ble Governor of Sikkim, Shri Shriniwas Patil at Raj Bhavan on 30th November, 2016. They presented lapel (Flag Sticker) to Hon’ble Governor and the First Lady on the occasion of Armed Forces Flag Day which is celebrated on 7th December every year.
Hon’ble Governor while enquiring about the Flag Day Fund raised last year also suggested the Sainik Board Officers to approach all schools, colleges, business establishments, temples and trusts, government departments, undertakings, industrial units, check posts and power projects for enhanced collection this year.
Col.(Retd.) Bhutia also apprised the Hon’ble Governor that RBI authorities in Sikkim has assured to exchange the old 1000 and 500 denomination currency notes collected through Flag Day Fund. Hence the general public are at liberty to donate the same if they so desire.
Hon’ble Governor on the occasion has appealed the citizens from all walks of life to come forward and contribute generously for Armed Forces Flag Day Fund for the welfare of retired and deceased soldiers of our country and their family members and dependents. “It is the time for all of us to acknowledge and show our concern to the valiant members of Armed Forces who are guarding our borders 24x7 and keeping us secure from the external threats”, Hon’ble Governor said.
“As the citizen of this great Nation, we must rise up to support by all means, the efforts being made by the Government to provide needed assistance and financial security to the dependents and family members of our Armed Forces. This has become all the more significant at present in the wake of numerous sacrifices being made by our security personnel fighting the menace of terrorism”, Hon’ble Governor further added.
